May 29th is...

End of the Middle Ages Day. Not really sure what to say about that, except note that the fall of Constantinople marked the end of the Middle Ages. Now, sing along with me, Kiddies:

"Istanbul was Constantinople

Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople

Been a long time gone, Constantinople

Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night

Every gal in Constantinople

Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople

So if you've a date in Constantinople

She'll be waiting in Istanbul

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam

Why they changed it I can't say

People just liked it better that way

So take me back to Constantinople

No, you can't go back to Constantinople

Been a long time gone, Constantinople

Why did Constantinople get the works?

That's nobody's business but the Turks

Istanbul (Istanbul)

Istanbul (Istanbul)

Even old New York was once New Amsterdam

Why they changed it, I can't say

People just liked it better that way

Istanbul was Constantinople

Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople

Been a long time gone, Constantinople

Why did Constantinople get the works?

That's nobody's business but the Turks

So take me back to Constantinople

No, you can't go back to Constantinople

Been a long time gone, Constantinople

Why did Constantinople get the works?

That's nobody's business but the Turks

Istanbul"

For those of you not hip to my little history lesson, check out this video from They Might Be Giants. Yes, it's the Tiny Toons version.

For All of You Tea Snobs Out There

I'm including myself under that heading. I drink a lot of tea. I mean a lot. I gave up coffee. There's just too much caffeine. I'm not a soda drinker, anymore. Talk about empty calories. That leaves me water, which I simply must flavor if I'm going to get in my 8-10 servings a day. Lemon and lime are good, but only get a person so far.

Tea. I like it green, black, white, and oolong. In my quest to try more types, I discovered another kind called rooibos. Never heard of it, but it sounded intersting. Then I stumbled upon this genius idea. If I wasn't so excited about it, I'd be jealous that I didn't think of it first. Enjoy. Perhaps curled up with a fuzzy friend and a good book.
If this isn't your "cup of tea", (I am totally patting myself on the back for that one), try some premade blends from Tea Forte. Though I don't have a lot that's good to say about my last job, I did get to enjoy some awesome brewed beverages while I was there. We sold the products in our store and always had something waiting for our customers. Sometimes it was the only reason I dragged myself in there. Don't take my word for it, go here.

This Just In...

Remember several posts ago, when I was talking about the new Joss Whedon show, Dollhouse? Well, a couple of clips have been leaked (thank you, Wired Blog), and it appears to be shaping up nicely. It looks like we're being given at least 13 episodes, which I just hope turns into more.
Keep your chin up, Jossy. There are quite a few of us rooting for you! And hey, if something goes wrong, we'll just send the Fox Execs. itty bitty dolly furniture, a la the "Save Jericho" campaign. That'll show 'em.

Beauty Review: Good News for Redheads!

I am so impressed by the Aveda products, I cannot even begin to tell you. One of my last posts was about the Damage Remedy treatment, and I'm still absolutely loving it. The only downside (or upside, if you choose to look at it that way), is that I only need to use it once a week, so I wanted to investigate some of the products I can use on a daily basis. I decided to take another leap and try their color depositing shampoo and conditioner. I am so impressed with it, I just had to share with you.

Madder Root Shampoo and Conditioner imparts color to dark hair and reds with henna. The shampoo smells a little like almonds, comes out an orange color, and suds up nicely. The conditioner is bright cherry red and smells like lovely lavender. Be sure to follow the directions carefully, though. The first time I used it, I forgot to take my wide toothed comb into the shower, and it didn't spread as evenly throughout my hair like I would have liked. The second time I used it, it was perfect. I combed it though, and tossed a shower cap over it, then went about my daily activities for 20 minutes before rinsing it out. My red is vibrant, and my hair is soft, just like it is the day I colored it. By now, it would have washed out to a strawberry blonde shade that's more subdued than the color I started out with. My only other word of caution is that the conditioner can stain palms. Just make sure to wash your hands right after use, and they will return to the normal color. This product is a must for anyone who wants to keep their shade bright and beautiful. It takes a little effort, but trust me, it's well worth it. They have other color depositing products for brunettes, blondes, and black and grey hair.

I have to say, I am really turning into an Aveda girl:)
