Happy Halloween!

Here is a list of some lesser known scary movies you can watch tonight while waiting for trick or treaters:

Bubba Ho Tep stars Bruce Campbell as an elderly Elvis Presley and Ossie Davis as a senior JFK. The two become unlikely buddies as their retirement home is inhabited by an Egyptian soul-sucking zombie. Fun for everyone!

Look for Francis Ford Coppola's
Dementia 13. This was the famous director's debut, and though it's not quite the big budget extravaganzas we're used to, it's a great little black and white, whodunit murder mystery. It's great for MST3K parties, too!

Though not particularly scary, you can always watch my personal favorite kid-safe spookfests:
Beetlejuice and Casper. Look for Eric Idle in the last one!

If you'd prefer something deeper with your creepfest, I always recommend
Donnie Darko. You can be disturbed and learn something about science at the same time!

And last, but certainly not least, look for the Halloween episodes of
Buffy the Vampire Slayer. They are punny, smart, and totally entertaining. (I said punny on purpose. Fans will know what I'm talking about.)

I just may start watching them all now!

I'd like to hear from you. What are you doing for All Hallow's Eve?

CD Releases for the Week of October 29th

Albeit, it's a touch late, but here are some albums to look for in your local music store...

Eagle has compliled some of the late Barry White's work for release today. Pick up a copy of "An Evening with Barry White" and play it for someone you love.

Re-released is "Ballads", from the John Coltrane Quartet. This was first issued in 1962. Glad to see you can still find this in circulation. Also, look for the solo work, simply called "Coltrane", on the Verve label.

Blues Traveler has another album, titled "Cover Yourself". This is their first in two years. I also recommend their "Live on the Rocks", recorded from a show at the beautiful Red Rocks Ampitheater in Morrison, CO!

Look for a David Bowie boxed set from Sony Records. I love this guy so much, I named my fish after him.

Brit-Rock newcomers, the Fratellis, release their sophomore album this week. "Edgy in Brixton" will be on the Cherry Tree label.

"Fraggle Rockin' a Collection" is also released this week, and those of you who followed my nostalgia kick this month know that I'm most excited about this one!

Enjoy!

Tomorrow is Wednesday...

And I'd like to encourage you to take part in "Who? What? When? Where? Why? Wednesday". This is your chance to submit questions and I will do my very best to answer them for you. Do you just love the song on a commercial and want to know who sings it? Do you need some advice on something? Have you waited until the very last second and need a Halloween costume? Send your inquiries my way!

Simply send the questions as a comment to this post, and I'll have your answers up by tomorrow. Nothing perverted, or math related, please! I'd like to do this on a weekly basis, so let's see what's on your mind.

Thanks to Ava for the awesome idea.

Artist's Edition

It's Tuesday, and frankly, I'm suffering from a bit of blogger's block. How's about I just put up some nifty links of amazingly talented artists for you to enjoy, and include some artsy time wasters to get you through the second most boring day of the week?

A page of photos taken by artist Mark Jenkins.

An online, interactive kaleidoscope. This is oddly reminiscent of my high school trips to the planetarium in Boulder. I could play with this all day, as long as I had some cool music going in iTunes.

Want to paint and learn about yourself at the same time?

This is way more cool than writing "wash me" on that dust covered car in the parking lot.

This is a painting and not a photograph. It's 99% Airbrush, and it puts all I've ever done to shame. Freakin' amazing!

I think this is art, but I guess I'll leave that up to you. You have to admit, it's creative. Those kooky Germans!

As a last minute edit, I saw this story and it just touched my heart. This young artist deserves lots of recognition.

Having a Spot of Trouble...

...with the hyperlinks. I'm going back and editing those posts now. Sorry for the mess. I'll get this figured out in no time.

Bored at Work? Check this out...

Let your Geekiness shine! My favorites on this site are the Giant Plush Microbes, and the Ion USB Turntable. Anyone want to get me a Geek Work Shirt for Christmas? I think I'm a Medium. http://www.thinkgeek.com/

Coupon codes for popular online shopping destinations. Discounts for checkout!

A great website that claims it's okay to play with your food! Safe for Vegetarians, too:) http://www.mosspink.com/veggies.html

A free fun game, for all those of you who fancy yourself a punk rocker, but can't manage to nail 3 chords. Has some language, so don't play it around your boss or your kiddlets. http://www.addictinggames.com/punkomatic.html

And lastly, the trailer for the movie I am most excited about! IRON MAN!! RDJ is lookin' good in the title role, and Sam Jackson as Nick Fury? What's not to love? http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/ironman/large_trailer.html

Origins to the Rescue!

Many of you know that I worked for Origins a few years ago as a sales guide, make-up artist, and interim Counter Manager. I took the job because I loved the product, and was thrilled to get it at a discount. I had acne for a number of years, and it was this line that finally started clearing up my skin. Sadly, I had to leave because the store my counter was in made it a nightmare to stay. I'm spare you all the sob story, but suffice it to say, if our Account Manager hadn't been such a chore of a woman, I would still be working for this awesome company. I check back with their free standing store and the website on a fairly regular basis, just to see what they're up to and what new products I'll have to put on my "To Try" list. They've always been natural, but now organic, too! Good stuff for your face and for the Earth.

Check it out: New product!

Music to Your Ears!

One of my favorite bands, The Flaming Lips, recieved an odd, but cool honor this past week. They had an alley named after them, in their hometown. Wayne and the boys totally deserve this!

Also, another band I've been listening to for a while, Jet, appear to be taking a little break. Yikes! Four years of touring would probably make me pretty tired, too.

Here is Vanity Fair's list of The Best Soundtracks of All Time. I'm thrilled to bits with the Number 2 selection!

Not to get anyone super-excited, but it appears that CBGBs is re-opening, just not in the way we had hoped.

And with that, I'm off to bed. More in the morning!

First Post! Hurrah!!

For my first time readers, Welcome! I'm glad you decided to take a look. It may seem a little self-indulgent to make an entire blog about my favorite things, but I'd like to think I have tons of cool little gems to share with all of you. I'm on my honor to update daily, so watch this space. Who knows what you might see!

A little about me: I'm a pet parent, a good listener, an artist who works in many mediums, a big time reader, and a pop-culture junkie. I'm a little nerdy, and make no apologies for it.

Stay tuned.
